Just a little OCD

I know that I like things done a certain way.
Most of my friends tell me that I have OCD.
I realize there may be a slight tendancy, but it is definitely not extreme.
I have illustrated a few examples of things I like done in a specific manner.
Come on, realistically, don't many of you do these same things?

The sink gets wiped down after each use. A separate towel is used just for that.
This drives boyfriend nuts!

All of my DVDs (pictured above) and CDs are kept in alphabetical order.
Who doesn't?

The shower curtain gets closed completely after each use.
Well, you have to let the curtain dry, right?

The toothpaste tube gets squeezed from the bottom after each use!
Well, it just makes it easier, doesn't it?

The dishes get washed before going in the dishwasher.
Ok, they are clean, but the dishwasher sanitizes them with the high heat.

Money is organized by denomination before going into wallet.
Well, it makes it easier to pay quickly.

Hope all of you have a great weekend!

I'm exactly the same way. Don't forget about obsessing over posts to make sure each picture appears exactly like you want it. I can spend an hour fiddling with one thing before I'm happy.

It can be a curse.

Gyrobo said...

I get the money one, but all my DVDs are sorted by genre.

Lee Ann said...

Fred ~ haha, you know me better than you think!

gyro ~ Genre, huh? Interesting! Very interesting!

Jef ~ haha, how cute you are! Organization just makes life easier... ;)

I do all of those things, except I don't have a dishwasher. So ... either you are totally normal, or you & I are both mentally ill. Either way, hurrah for us!

Spinning Girl said...

p.s. Do you balance your checkbook to the penny? And chase down your error if it doesn't balance? Add that to the list.

Lee Ann said...

spinning ~ Yes, I do balance my checkbook to the penny. I am going with "we are totally normal" :)
... hurrah for us!

I have to do the shower curtain thing too. Mildew is not beautiful.

I do all of those things too, except for the sink one. I wipe the counter with a towel, but I only scrub the bowl of the sink with a sponge and some comet when it gets dirty -- otherwise it just gets a water rinse.

And I'm not sure how I would sort my DVD's by genre, because I would have a hard time placing them all.

I do one odd thing with the DVD's -- they are in alphabetical order except for sequels, which go next to their predecesors. Normally this is alphabetical anyway, but sometimes it isn't, like the sequel to Jurrasic Park is called Lost World, but it comes after Jurrasic Park. And the Indy Jones series is in number order and so is the Bill and Ted series. :)

angel ~ Of course!
...mildew, yucky!

Booty ~ Yeah, like "Desperado", and "Once Upon a Time in Mexico".
I completely understand.
:)

I alphabetize by cds and dvd's too. I also do the shower thing and cannot have a dirty bathroom.

I don't think any of the things you described are obsessive at all, why they are practical and time saving in the long run. I also do all of the things you listed... just makes sense to me.
Besides, how can you find anything if you don't put it in order first?

Dave Morris said...

When you pull back that curtain and really look behind it, you begin to realize we are all freaking lunatics.

Dysfunctional, CD sorting, sink drying, money arranging, shower curtain closing, toothpaste squeezing, Kournikova masturbating wackos.

(crickets) Uh oh.

Lee Ann said...

Alie ~ I know! I don't like wet bathroom rugs either.

Ellen ~ Haha, well we have already established that you have the OCD tendancies as well *wink*

Dave ~ *as I pull back the curtain*...I see you! ;)

Don't forget the way that you need to wash me all over before you make sweet love to me.

Lee Ann said...

Baby, you told me you love those bubble baths we take.

Carl Spackler said...

i kind of agree with you on some of those. now i don't feel so weird.

Lee Ann said...

Carl ~ See!
I am beginning to feel normal myself. I am finding out that there are more people than I realized that are like this.
So why do so many people act like they don't have these tendancies?

We all have our quirks!! Thats what makes us cool.. i have to say you are one of the coolest peeps I know!! I do the same things accept for the dvd collection but you gave me an idea :)./// I do have my clothes in my closet color coordinated which drives me nutzo on laundry day

Lee Ann said...

Hey Kay Ray ~ I have this cool thing I wanted to share with you, I will email it to you when I finish getting it together!
I sort my closet too (I just wish I had 2 closets for more space).

My Dear Lee Ann,

And a good Friday evening to you.

Thankfully, there has been plentiful 'mvula' (rain) here recently. Let us hope that it continues.

I found your blog entry for today very interesting, and will show it to Doviko on Sunday (he has tomorrow off). It certainly shows that you maintain a very tidy household. I congratulate you.

Ohhhhhhhh, you got it bad, sister.

But if it makes you feel any better, I have mild OCD compounded with mild ADD and it makes me Alphabet Soup...!

Carsey ~ I am so sorry I didn't enter the contest after being tagged. I truly thought about it, but I just could not come up with anything...sorry to let you down. I am so flattered with all the votes and comments...all very sweet, thank you so much. What is a dinkum?

MMIII ~ Thank you! I hope you
continue to get the rain.
I just can't help the need to do those things :)
I hope you have a good weekend.

Saur ~ Haha...I had a feeling about you, as your writing always seems perfect!

LOL! In a cute way though!

I am your COMPLETE AND EXACT OPPOSITE!

And you know what they say about opposites...

wow. even if it was my policy to flirt with you lee ann, I don't know if I could have done it with this blog post. If you were to visit my house, you just might have a stroke.

Ticharu said...

You must realize, I don't have most of those things to be obsessed about in the first place... no sink, no shower, no dishwasher, no money... it really makes obsessing so much easier!

Lee Ann said...

Jiggs ~ *cry*

Lee Ann said...

Tich ~ You are my nature guy!

I'm sorry Lee Ann. That comment came out mean sounding and I don't want to be mean. Especially not to you. It's just that my particular slobbiness would probably make you pull out your hair. Also, I'm not having a very good day and unfortunately I'm a little crabby.

I admit it. I'm a douchebag.

Hi Lee Ann.

What amazes me is that virtually every commenter here is the same! Except poor hotboy who, as you know, suffers from
retention deficit disorder.

You could turn this into a research paper on The Incidence of OCD in the Blogging Community.

I'm the same as you on everything (but I don't have a dishwasher - that would be just one more thing for the other inmates here to mess up).

Except there's one thing that drives me crazy whenever I visit my aunt (one of the ringed hands in my last HNT) - she insists everyone wipes down the sink (and the shower) after every use. Not only do I find it impossible to go along with this, but it generates its own OCD sub-problem. If I've finshed wiping the sink, and say I want to floss my teeth, I don't want to put sink-cloth fingers in my mouth, so I need to wash them first - in the sink! I'd never get out of the bathroom.

So when I stay with her, as a protest and to avoid friction, I never shower at her place. I use the swimming pool showers, every day. And I'm thinking of buying my own wet wipes next time, so I needn't wash my hands either.

If your boyfriend could live with the sink-drying rule, he'd be a better man than I am. Treasure him.

PS I would add two more to your list - storing the pots and pans inside one another, in size order, to save space.

And storing the video tapes in order of fullness, so all the full ones are at one end and the blanks at the other end, with the part-empty ones ranged in the middle. I'm sure nobody else does that.

Ranando said...

Nice blog, I enjoyed it.

Lee Ann said...

That's ok Jiggs, I still love ya!

Rob ~ haha, That is an idea, a study!
You have me laughing about drying off the sink and shower. I am not really that bad about it, I don't wipe my shower down. Although I really don't like to get into a wet shower after someone else (don't really know why that is), but I don't wipe it down.
I do stack my pots in size order, I don't have room to do otherwise. I have never done that with the video tapes though!

ranando ~ Hey! Thank you for stopping by! I hope to see you here more often.

Girl we are soulmates. Is that OCD? I just thought it was being neat. Like putting Shout on grass stains before you wash the blue jeans. And I agree with booty j patrol, sequels go in order. I have the original Batman movie and it is before the Michael Keaton Batman. Just Nuts in Louisiana I guess. Chronicles of Narnia in about 10 hours. Laters

Avik ~ Thank you...you are great too!

Neo ~ *HUGS* so are you!

Bill ~ I would expect no less from you. I would imagine in your line of work, you would have to be a little this way!

Hotboy ~ I used to be a tape librarian in a data center, does that count? ;)

I used to get so much shit from my college friends for alphabetizing my CDs! If they got out of order, it would take all day to rearrange them, but it was worth it. Once you have over 100, it's the only way you can keep track of them. And I think I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 300.

Gyrobo said...

Grrr! I know this one guy who just completely doesn't care if his DVDs are in the right cases. I normally don't care what other people do, but his DVD collection is huge, and sometimes I want to borrow something.

It's a tactical transaction.

Lee Ann said...

BeckEye!!!! Hey Girl! I have missed you. How is the Big Apple?
I totally understand, alphabetizing is a must. Wow! Over 300...I may have a 4th of that and I still have to do it.
Good to hear from you, would love an update of your job and apartment hunting. Did you find one yet?
*HUGS*

Lee Ann said...

gyro ~ Like a big surprise, huh?
You borrow Tombstone and end up with Uptown Girls! hahaha

SOme of those things sounds weird, such as washing the dishes before the washing machine...

Rinsing, I would understand.

I am a little obsessive with locking doors. Even when I'm sure I've locked them, I occasionally will walk back to the car just to check... I once went home from work to make sure no one had broken in. The doors were all locked, but I left the curtain on the sliding glass door open and that worried me.

Hotboy said...

Washing the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. Hmmm? When I stayed on my own, I used to use all the dishes and then wash them. This meant I only had to wash dishes every four or five days. What a pig, eh? Hotboy

Hill Billy Rave said...

Lee Ann, I share many of the same habits. I never wipe down the sink after every use though. I don't have curtains in my shower, it has doors. I used to do my albums that way, yes, I said albums...casttes too. But, as I took them out they got jumbled. I need smething new to put them in, CD's that is. I don't have many DVD's. When you want something it is easier to find.
I organise my cash the same way, if I'm not in a rush. The truth is, I did these things at one time or another, but, I fall short of your grace...
Was that five weird habits?

Lee Ann said...

Crall ~ I guess everyone is extra particular in certain areas. I do double check the doorlocks to my apartment, once I didn't and realized the next morning the front door was unlocked all night
:(

Hotboy ~ Haha, that is funny. I don't usually like to leave even a glass sitting by the sink (once in a while it happens, but not much).

App Int ~ I don't think those are five wierd habits. It makes sense to me. I believe "they" call the albums vinyl these days...haha. (I also think of them as albums)

I do the tooth paste and money one....lol
