Some of the most colorful figures of the Old West

I am so glad it's Friday! I am ready for the weekend.
I just wanted to show you something that is fun.

That tall handsome dude in the middle is my cousin, obviously a distant cousin...(4th)
His name is "Texas Jack" Omohundro.
The two fellows with him are Wild Bill Hickok on the left and Buffalo Bill Cody on the right.

"Buffalo Bill’s show business career began on December 17, 1872 in Chicago; he was age twenty-six. "The Scouts of the Prairie" was a drama created by dime novelist Ned Buntline, who appeared in it with Cody and another well-known scout, "Texas Jack" Omohundro. The show was a success, despite one critic’s characterization of Cody as "a good-looking fellow, tall and straight as an arrow, but ridiculous as an actor." Other critics noted Cody’s manner of charming the audience and the realism he brought to his performance. Actor or not, Buffalo Bill was a showman. "

"The following season Cody organized his own troupe, the Buffalo Bill Combination. The troupe’ show "Scouts of the Plains" included Buffalo Bill, Texas Jack, and Cody’s old friend "Wild Bill" Hickok. Wild Bill and Texas Jack eventually left the show, but Cody continued staging a variety of plays until 1882. That year the Wild West show was conceived. It was an outdoor spectacle, designed to both educate and entertain, using a cast of hundreds as well as live buffalo, elk, cattle, and other animals."

I hope all of you have a good weekend!

Wow, it's great that you could trace your family tree that far back.

gyrobo ~ Hey! I haven't seen you for a while. To be honest with you, history was my least favorite subject in school. I do like it a little more now :)

angel ~ I think it is cool too. My grandparents gave me the scoop on this!

Jef ~ haha, you are so funny! It does make me wish I could have been there during that time (at least for a day)! My grandparents on my mom's side are the relation.

I've always loved reading about the old west and looking at pics in the Encyclopedia.

Hope you have a great weekend!!

Becky ~ you are cool, look at you, a little history buff!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend...*hugs*

Lee Ann -Thanks for sharing. It must make you feel good to know your relatives were connected to something that special.

I'm ready for the weekend too!

Man this week whooped my butt!

Peace!

Wow! How cool is that? We're descended from some famous people too, but to tell you who they are is to possibly tell you who *I* am, so I can't. It's fun in social settings, tho. ;o) So, are you automatically a crack shot?

I always thought it was pretty cool to be able to go back and look up the geneology. Some of my ancestors were originals on the Mayflower... but I always thought the wild west was a great legacy as well.

Lee Ann said...

Neo ~ It is fun to think about, would have been cool to know him! Hope you have a peaceful, relaxing weekend!

Saurkraut ~ I am sure that is fun. You really have my curiosity up! haha
I have a famous last name and am always asked if I am related, I have had fun with that. My dad has many stories from his travels of the fun he has had with our name.

I have been to the firing range with boyfriend, and no, I am not good at all :(
He is superb though.
Have a great weekend!

Lee Ann, That's interesting. Depending on how you look at it it gives the past and the present a face. As for not shooting well on the range, keep at it. I beleive if you want to empower a woman, give her a gun. It's not so much physically, it changes something inside. Be sweet.

Lee Ann said...

Hotboy ~ Thank you! I know how you like the photies!

App intellectual ~ I like that "gives the past and the present a face". I definitely need the practice (at the range)! *giggle*
thank you ;)

austin ~ Hey! Thank you for stopping by. I hope to see you here more often.

Damn LeeAnn-I knew you were cool, but now history even agrees with me!

Lee Ann said...

T ~ thank you, you are cool too!

Frank ~ You are such a guy! You have a good weekend too.

This is really cool. I'm related to a cowboy too. His name was Jack "Jiggs" Casey. He was the fabled "Massachusetts Horse Pervert". He was a shitty cowboy. Have a good weekend, sweetness!

You don't mind if I call you sweetness, do you?

Lee Ann said...

Jiggs ~ Ah, that is cool about "your relative" Cowboy!
Absolutely not, I love that, thank you ;)
You have a good weekend too!

Wow, you've got some good people in your geneology there. Was that Calimaty Jane in that one picture? That would have been a rough time to live, but probably interesting. It's good that you learn some family history...Good luck.

twolf1920 said...

How you been LeeAnn? Come over and say hi if you can! I am home with a chest cold!

Lee Ann said...

Hey Goan! It has been a while since I have seen you. Mr. Rhinestone! I was never a big fan of the westerns, but I saw a few of the western television shows when I was very young.

Lucy ~ Hey! Thank you for stopping by. I am not sure who the young lady was in that picture, I have been asked that before. I guess I will have to study a little more. I hope you will come by more often.

T ~ oh cutie, I am sorry you are not feeling well. I think that crud is going around. I have started with a bit of a sore throat, I pray it doesn't turn into a chest cold (I would probably end up with pneumonia again). I will be right over with some hot sweet tea, a cold cloth for your head and a few motrin. Cya in a few minutes.

History was my favorite subject, but only because I hated the others more.

Now that I think about it, study hall was my favorite subject.

Lee Ann said...

gyrobo ~ We used to have "free periods", where you could do anything except go into the hallways where the classes were or leave the building. We even had a smoking area outside, where we had speakers playing the music from our high school intraradio station.
Those were my favorite periods, I used to sit out there and listen to the music (even though I did not smoke).

Fred said...

Wow, I can barely trace my family tree beyond my grandparents. Cool pics!

Lee Ann said...

Thanks Fred! It is fun knowing about it.

twolf1920 said...

Thanks Hun-I feel better today thanks to you!

Lee Ann said...

Thanks T, I am feeling better already.

twolf1920 said...

I will be over for some reciprocity! I have a great electric blanket, and I give really good neck rubs!

Lee Ann said...

T ~ you are so sweet, I really do need a neck massage, and the electric blanket will definitely keep the tootsies nice and warm.

How's your sore throat, sweetness?

It was fun talking LeeAnn! I look forward to the next time!

Great history lesson. Very very cool. Sometimes the real stories get lost out there because we don't have enough people to hand them down. Thank you for passing this one along.

Lee Ann said...

T ~ I did too. Will talk to you later ;)

an80snut ~ Hey! Thank you for stopping by. I was glad to share that bit of information, it is fun.
Come by again, ok?

Lee Ann, good job! The firing range is a place all women should be familiar with, IMHO.
