The music in me

Studies have shown that music can make it easier to learn.
Just think of one of the first songs you learn as a child... The Alphabet Song.

It also can mark a place in time.
There is no way for us to experience the future and know what it will be like for us; we can only recall an experience from the past and remember what it was like.
Music is one of those things that can trigger a memory and take us back to that moment in time.
Whether it be a first kiss, a special dance, your best friend's first boyfriend, a campfire, a football game, etc., music can take you back to that moment.

As I was working out this morning, I was listening to Bruce Springsteen on my Ipod and it made me recall being at his concert years ago. I could actually visualize being there and watching him sing the song I was listening to.

Just as when I hear "Little Pink Houses" by John Cougar Mellencamp, I think of the time I was driving on A1A in Palm Beach (as it was playing on the car stereo).

Music, the great escape!

What song takes you back to a special moment in time, and what was that special moment?

Have a great week!

Waltz of the Flowers from "Nutcracker" always brings back a very nice memory of a young woman, a candle-lit living room, and a bunch of unmentionable things. But that was a long, long time ago!

I know I'll really date myself here, but it was watching Janis Joplin perform "Piece of my Heart" when she was with Big Brother and the Holding Company.

There are so many songs that take me back to so many individual seconds in my life.

It's funny you mention John Cougar Mellencamp because that song "Jack and Diane" was popular when I was 16, and I remember going roller skating when that lyric came on "hold onto 16 as long as you ca an.." and I always remembered that moment!

Give Peace a Chance reminds me of watching a movie called The Strawberry Statement (I think!). Buffalo Springfield's Something's Happening Here reminds me of Morocco. Ditto May You Stay Forever Young by the inimitable Bob.Hotboy
