Go for the goodness

...A day early!

You know that feeling you get in your gut, right before you do something out of your comfort level (It may be a speech, an interview, a BIG purchase, skydiving, jumping into a pool from a 10 meter platform....well, you get the idea)?
It is a nervous feeling, excitement, anxiety.
It is the feeling that can make or break you. It either pushes you to do it or you dismiss the idea and decide against it.
Sometimes, the longer you ponder this thought, the original desire you had to do this "act" sort of fades away and you go on about your normal routine.
Depending on what the act is, whether it could benefit someone else, may also weigh in your decision to do it.

What kind of situation would it have to be for you to act upon your feelings or instinct?
Would it help someone else?
Would it help you overcome a fear?
Would it be good for an animal or the environment?
Would you do it strictly out of survival?
Would you do it if the risk was minimal?
Would you do it just for the rush?
Would you do it if was only within the law?
Would you do it if it was illegal and knew you could not get caught?

Now, I am not suggesting to be wreckless and I am not encouraging illegal acts,

but how often do you see a situation where you think...
"Oh, that poor animal / person, I wish they did not have to endure that situation. I wish they could have immediate relief" ?
Or
"I have always been on the reserved side, but I should not pass up this chance to get up in front of everyone to sing kareoke". (Right Howard *wink*)
Or
"I am here on a great vacation. I am afraid of heights, but I really should go parasailing because I will never see a view like this again".

I have to admit that when I am faced with a situation, a lot of times my thoughts are as far as my actions go. Sometimes you have to reach outside of your comfort level; it is an amazing feeling when you do this (the reward).
Once you have, it becomes a little easier to do it the next time.
I am a believer to live life, no regrets. If you don't "go for it" then most likely you will eventually have a regret. (I know, sometimes there is the regret for doing it, but most of the time you will end up being really glad you did).
As a kid, it is easier to act upon these thoughts because you have not seen or have an understanding of what the end result could be. The older we get, the better understanding we have of life and how it works (for the most part).
We also get complacent.

I was on the swim team and diving team when I was growing up. I had no fear of water what-so-ever. My diving coach would explain how to do a dive and I would do it.
Once, we were at a big swim meet at a pool that had diving platforms. At the end of the day, when the swim meet was over, we were allowed to play in the pool. Some of the kids were jumping off the diving platforms, so of course I wanted to.
I jumped off the 5 meter platform...YAY, fun!
Then I went to the 7 meter platform...(oh this is pretty high up, here goes...I jumped). Then I climbed up the 10 meter platform...(GULP! I am really way up here! I walked to the end, curled my toes over the edge and looked down.
That feeling! I had it!
I struggled with my thoughts "do it" / "no way, too high".
My heart was racing, my stomach was tight and my knees were trembling.
Then I got IT, the thought that overcame me...."JUST GO"! I bent my trembling knees and pushed off.
I DID IT!
Afterwards, I was glad I did and knew that if I had not done it, I would have had regrets.

Now that I am older, it becomes harder and harder to take action on my thoughts.
The last several months, I have made an effort to act instead of just thinking...like the destitute man I gave my last $2 to on the insterstate this past winter; getting home and returning to the grocery store parking lot with cat food for the stray cat; releasing a trapped bird inside a car...
I really do not know how much impact I have made with these small gestures, but the point is I acted upon my thoughts. It was out of my routine comfort level and it made me feel good inside. It is my hope that I will do even better from this point on.

You only live once, go for the goodness. If it is something you think you want...GO FOR IT... that job interview, the speech, kareoke, helping the homeless, skydiving...or even getting a tattoo! ;)

You will love the reward!

Love you all, have a great weekend!

Need More Time

I have decided that I need more time.
More time during the days.
Each day is only 24 hours. That is not long enough.

Here is my reasoning:
I do best with 8 hours of sleep. (Do I get 8 hours of sleep every night? No! Very rarely, but that is the amount of sleep that makes me feel "at my best").

So, here is my day:
I wake up at 6:30 am.
I go to work, go work out, possibly go to the store, go home, eat dinner...etc.

Okay, here is where my calculations come into play.
Say I get my 8 hours of blissful sleep. I feel pretty good all day.
In order for me to get my optimum sleep with my 8 hours of beauty rest, I do best if I have been awake for approximately 17 1/2 hours.
If I try to go to sleep when I have not been awake long enough, then I cannot sleep a full 8 hours.

So....
Stay awake from 6:30 am to 12 midnight.
Sleep from midnight to 8 am.
Stay awake 8am to 1:30 am.
Sleep from 1:30 am to 9:30 am.
Stay awake from 9:30 am to 3 am.
Sleep from 3 am to 11 am.
Stay awake from 11 am to 4:30 am
Sleep from 4:30 am to 12:30

See my problem?
With this schedule I would start off on the first day late for work and it would get progressively worse!
I think an extra 1 1/2 hours each day would be very beneficial, because I always end up short on my beauty sleep.
;)

Have I totally confused you?

Sweet dreams!

Ten things about...

...SEX

1. The typical lovemaking session lasts around 15 minutes: roughly 10 to 12 minutes of foreplay and around 3 to 5 minutes of intercourse.

2. Humans aren't the only horny members of the animal kingdom doing it just for fun. Dolphins and a type of chimpanzee called the bonobo have also been observed engaging in sexual activity when they are not in their natural reproductive cycles.

3. While Viagra has made erectile dysfunction (affecting 10 to 12 percent of men) a household phrase, the opposite problem -- premature ejaculation -- is more common (affecting 24 to 27 percent of men). The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is currently reviewing a drug called dapoxetine as a cure for this problem.

4. Crank up that thermostat... orgasms may be more intense in warmer conditions. The degree of vasocongestion, reddening or darkeing of the skin known as the "sex flush," is both more common in warmer temperatures and an indication of how intense an orgasm may be.

5. If a woman experiences orgasm during sex, she is more likely to become pregnant, since orgasmic spasms in pelvic muscles help move sperm up the vaginal canal to the uterus.

6. Homosexuality is not unique to humans. Many species have been observed engaging in homosexual activity, and in fact male bats have the highest rate of homosexuality of all mammals.

7. On any given day 400,000,000 people around the world -- 1 in 17 of us -- will have sexual intercourse. Broken down further, 4,000 people are having sex at any given time.

8. Sex cures headaches. Endorphins released into our bloodstream when we have sex not only give us pleasure but also act as painkillers. Useful information to whip out the next time your partner uses a headache as a reason to say no.

9. Many elderly can and do have frequent sex. At age 70, 73% of males are still potent, and 30% of women 80 or older have still have sex.

10. 70% of women would rather eat choclate than have sex.

Witnessing a Spectacular Moment...

For just one moment, one snapshot of the day, one spectacular moment, time stands still and YOU witness it!

Years ago, while I was living in Houston, Texas, I was on my way to a doctor's visit. I was much younger and I drove much more agressively then.
Well, I had to....to keep from getting trampled on I-10. I found out quick that you have to be agressive to "hang" with Houston drivers.
Anyway, I was running late for my visit, so I was kind of riding the bumper of the Mercedes Benz in front of me. I know, I know....if I had a redo, I would have put a little space between their back bumper and my front bumper.
We came to a traffic light and it turned red, the Mercedes Benz stopped quickly, therefore I did the same. The light turned green and I was reving to go and started up right on their bumper. As the Mercedes went through the intersection, a pickup truck came blasting through the red light smashing right into the Mercedes Benz .... within inches in front of me. Time stood still and the vehicles spinning around looked as if they were in slow motion. I jumped out of my car and ran to the Mercedes and tried to open the driver door. As I was finally able to get the door open, a young teenage boy emerges from the passenger side and looks at the car. I am saying to the woman "Are you ok?" The young guy yells out "MOM, LOOK WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO THE BENZ!" Someone else ran over to the pickup truck...thank goodness, no one was seriously hurt. However, the Benz was mostly totalled.
This happened right before my eyes. Just think, if the car in front of me had gone through the traffic light right before it turned red, it would have left me there to be the first car coming through the intersection once we got the green light! That could have been me in that accident!!

I had dinner with my parents the other night. My dad told me two stories that were fascinating....So, if you can stick around for a few minutes, I will try to be quick.

Dad and his friend Jim joined the Air Force at the same time. Fast forward to the end of the Korean War. Jim was a Reconnaissance fighter pilot, flying an RF-80, which means he flew with cameras instead of guns. To meet the critera of being able to go home from the war, the pilots had to fly 100 missions. Jim had flown 99 missions. North Korea, China and US signed a peace treaty. The day after the war was declared over, he was given his last mission to complete, then he could be on his way home. He was assigned to fly over China to take pictures in grid formation to see which direction the Korean military was moving.
FLY OVER CHINA?
That was probably one of the biggest risk flights he had been assigned to, since China was totally restricted.
Remember, he only had cameras, no weapons.
He flew into the China airspace, took the photos, turned around and started flying back. All of the sudden, here come THREE RUSSIAN MIGS chasing him. The Migs were used by China and were much faster than the RF-80, but his plane was a bit faster than normal since it was not loaded down with artillary and weapons.
Ok, that would be the only good thing about not carrying guns!
He had the pedal to the metal and couldn't go any faster, so he went low. He was flying as low as he could possibly fly.
About the time he reached the Yalu River, he passed by some Australians manning the artillery on the River.
They radio'ed up to Jim saying: " 'Ello Mate, I say, did you know you have 3 Migs on your ars?" Jim radio'ed back and said, "Yes, I know they are on my ars, can you get them off?"
They replied, "Most definitely will try".
All ended well except once he returned home, he was diagnosed with Ileitis. Imagine that?
Can you only imagine if you had been one of the Australians that witnessed the RF-80 skimming across the river being chased by 3 Migs? Wow!!!!!

Ok, time for one more?

My dad is very dedicated in his excercise. He walks/jogs, swims and plays golf daily. It is a rare day when he misses a workout.
I think that is why he looks 10 years younger than he is.
Anyway, one day he was running in his quiet neighborhood on the sidewalk. An SUV was coming toward him (not too fast, maybe 30 mph). The driver bent down to pick something off the floorboard.
While doing that, he hit the curb, which caused the vehicle to flip and all of the sudden, Dad saw this vehicle flying (sort of low to the ground) straight toward him.
He bent down as low as he could go and ran as fast as he could.
The next thing he turned around and saw it hit the fence and ground directly behind him! OMG! In a flash of time....time stood still and he witnessed this vehicle flying over him. He was inches from sure death! Unbelievable!
He ran over to the vehicle and the guy was sitting up straight with big eyes looking stunned.
Dad asked if he was ok and the guy said "yes, but I think I have ruined my car."
Dad found out the guy had just bought his vehicle brand new 2 days before.

Thanks for sticking around to the end of my three mini stories.
Spectacular moments in time....time that stands still long enough for you to witness. There are very few moments in a lifetime that one will witness a spectacular snapshot of time.
Do you have one to share?

Have a wonderful day!

I wonder...

Has anyone ever told you that you always think of "off the wall" type of stuff?
Well, ok I admit, I guess I do!
The other morning, I was lying in bed before I got up.
I started thinking...
I wonder if I have ever walked in the exact footsteps of anyone.
If I have, who and how many people?
I wonder if I have ever been in the exact place as someone really great. (I always think about that one when visiting historical tourist spots too).
I wonder if I have ever stood in the exact place where someone has died.
I wonder what the people that lived in my apartment before me did.
Have I ever done the exact thing, in the exact spot they did?
Then my mind went to my last apartment.
I wonder who lives there now.
I wonder if they have ever thought about what things were done in that apartment before they lived there.
Really the question would be where, not so much what, right Howard?....each room....even in the walk-in closets.....*blushing*
....well, you should be a little adventurous, right? *giggle*

I know I do think of strange things...all the time. Do any of you? Really now, be honest!

Hugs to you all

For Real?

In Honor of Stupid People . . . .In case you needed further proof that the human race is doomed through stupidity, here are some actual label instructions on consumer goods.

On a Sears hairdryer -- Do not use while sleeping.
(That's the only time I have to work on my hair.)

On a bag of Fritos -- You could be a winner!
No purchase necessary. Details inside.
(the shoplifter special?)

On a bar of Dial soap -- "Directions: Use like regular soap."
(and that would be???....)

On some Swanson frozen dinners -- "Serving suggestion: Defrost."
(but, it's just a suggestion.)

On Tesco's Tiramisu dessert (printed on bottom) -- "Do not turn upside down."
(well...duh, a bit late, huh!)

On Marks & Spencer Bread Pudding -- "Product will be hot after heating."
(...and you thought????)

On packaging for a Rowenta iron -- "Do not iron clothes on body."
(but wouldn't this save me time?)

On Boot's Children Cough Medicine -- "Do not drive a car or operate machinery after taking this medication."
(We could do a lot to reduce the rate of construction accidents if we could just get those 5 year-olds with head-colds off those bulldozers.)

On Nytol Sleep Aid -- "Warning: May cause drowsiness."
(...I'm taking this because???....)

On most brands of Christmas lights -- "For indoor or outdoor use only."
(as opposed to what?)

On a Japanese food processor -- "Not to be used for the other use."
(now, somebody out there, help me on this. I'm a bit curious.)

On Sainsbury's peanuts -- "Warning: contains nuts"
(talk about a news flash)

On an American Airlines packet of nuts -- "Instructions: Open packet, eat nuts."
(Step 3: say what?)

On a child's Superman costume -- "Wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly."
(I don't blame the company. I blame the parents for this one.)

On a Swedish Chainsaw -- "Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands or genitals."
(Oh my God..was there a lot of this happening somewhere?)

Have a great weekend!

Some people!

I went to meet a friend to grab a bite to eat the other night. I went into the parking deck and drove around the first quadrant. Someone was about to back out of their spot. I was ready to pull straight in. When the lady backed out, some rude lady drove up from the side, put her blinker on and swerved into the spot. There was no reason for me to have my blinker on because I was going to pull straight into the spot. I cannot believe that people can be so rude. I waited until she got out of her car and I gave her a look like I couldn't believe she just did that, then I moved on and found another spot. Ughhhh!

Have you ever had one of those servers in a restaurant that tend to be overly helpful? The one we had, came to the table to check on us a few times. Every time she came to the table she said, "Do you want a box for that"? Maybe she thought I was finished because I had paused eating while I was in the midst of talking. Just because I had stopped for a moment and was not "inhaling it", did not mean I wanted to box it up. She took my friend's plate saying "Let me get that out of your way". She had not finished, but had put her fork down for a moment. My friend said to me "Well, I guess I was finished with my rice, she must want us to leave." It was a nice restaurant with a lot of customers, but it was not completely full, maybe her section was full and she wanted to turn the table. Kind of rude!

I went to get my nails done during lunch yesterday. If you have a cell phone or a blue tooth, does that make it all right to have an entire private phone conversation within inches of a stranger? I just think there are certain times you can leave the phone in your purse or pocket. Like at the nail place while getting your nails done! In a store at the checkout counter. In the gym...wtf? In a restaurant. In an elevator, church, movie, theatre.... Oh the best one of all....a co-worker that brings her cell phone into the conference room during staff meetings. Come on people...have some common sense. Oh yeah, just because it has a ringer on it doesn't mean you have to answer it right where you are at that very moment. That is one of the reasons for caller ID and voice mail!

After getting my nails done, I went to pick up a quick lunch to take back to the office. I don't normally eat too much fast food, but I ate some yesterday. I went through the drive through at Hamburger Heaven....ummm really good! Anyway to end on a funny note....I pulled up to the speaker to order, the voice came over the speaker saying "Welcome to Hamburger Helper .... pause...pause...pause....[embarrassed] Uh, may I take your order".
*giggle*

I am a Yearning Soldier!

What your sleeping position says about you ...

Foetus

Those who curl up in the foetus position are described as tough on the outside but sensitive at heart. They may be shy when they first meet somebody, but soon relax. This is the most common sleeping position, adopted by 41% of the 1,000 people who took part in the survey. More than twice as many women as men tend to adopt this position.

Log

Lying on your side with both arms down by your side. These sleepers are easy going, social people who like being part of the in-crowd, and who are trusting of strangers. However, they may be gullible.

Yearner

People who sleep on their side with both arms out in front are said to have an open nature, but can be suspicious, cynical. They are slow to make up their minds, but once they have taken a decision, they are unlikely ever to change it.

Soldier

Lying on your back with both arms pinned to your sides. People who sleep in this position are generally quiet and reserved. They don't like a fuss, but set themselves and others high standards.

Freefall

Lying on your front with your hands around the pillow, and your head turned to one side. Often gregarious and brash people, but can be nervy and thin-skinned underneath, and don't like criticism, or extreme situations.

Starfish

Lying on your back with both arms up around the pillow. These sleepers make good friends because they are always ready to listen to others, and offer help when needed. They generally don't like to be the centre of attention.

The remainder of those in the poll said the position they fell asleep varied or did not know.

Professor Idzikowski also examined the effect of various sleeping positions on health. He concluded that the freefall position was good for digestion, while the starfish and soldier positions were more likely to lead to snoring and a bad night's sleep.

Professor Idzikowski said "Lying down flat means that stomach contents can more readily be worked back up into the mouth, while those who lie on their back may end up snoring and breathing less well during the night. "Both these postures may not necessarily awaken the sleeper but could cause a less refreshing night's sleep."

The research also found that most people are unlikely to change their sleeping position. Just 5% said they sleep in a different position every night.
I am half Yearner and half Soldier. A Yearning Soldier!
...and I think the descriptions fit me pretty good.
What type are you?
Sweet dreams!

Three times the charm?

The other night I awoke in the middle of the night. I got up to go to the bathroom (well, I am a girl). Sleepily I walked into the bathroom which was dimly lit by a pink night light (I like the warm pink glow that it gives off).
Immediately I noticed something on the floor and stood still. I thought to myself, I wonder why Howard left his belt on the floor. Then I started thinking how it looked a little different than a belt. I flicked on the light....OMG!!!!!!!!! It was a snake! On my bathroom floor! I dashed into the bedroom screaming "baby wake up wake up wake up"....as I jumped onto the bed and curled up. Howard opened his eyes and said "what?" I started crying and saying there is a snake in the bathroom...and continued to cry HARD. Then he started laughing and said it is fake and continued to laugh. I continued to cry....I cried for five minutes. He went and got it and started to bring it into the bedroom, I made him take it in the other room. Then he said I ruined the fun by crying! Well my gosh....so sorry to ruin the fun!!!

I finally got back to sleep.

First thing in the morning, I got up to go get a shower. I went into the bathroom, turned on the water in the bathtub to warm up and got myself undressed. I brushed my teeth then went to get into the shower. I pulled the shower curtain back and stepped into the tub....only to STEP ON A SNAKE!!!! I screamed bloody murder!!!!! Howard came running into the bathroom and grabbed me and held me. I again started crying... it scared the cr*p outta me. My throat still hurts from my scream. He again started laughing. I told him that was enough, I couldn't take anymore tricks. He then laughed and said I was a big baby for crying.

After I got dressed, I went to the kitchen to make breakfast.

I am not going to be tricked anymore. I asked him where he put it this time. I said..."It is probably in the fridge", so I opened the fridge. "It is probably in the freezer", so I opened the freezer. "Hmmm...I bet you put it in with the pots and pans", so I opened the drawer with the pots and pans. The whole time he is laughing and telling me he put it in his backpack. I told him that I didn't believe him. So I looked around and could not find it. I went back to getting breakfast prepared. I opened the package of english muffins, took two out and got a ziplock storage bag to put the rest of them in. I took them to the sink so the crumbs would drop in the sink...."AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" there it was, in the sink. This time I only screamed at the top of my lungs (I don't think I cried). He came running in the kitchen and I pounded him on his chest...."NO MORE!!!!!", I said. He laughed so hard. I can only say I am glad I could be his entertainment for the weekend, but my throat hurts and I don't want to see that damn snake again.

Ugh....

Fool me once....shame on me
Fool me twice...shame on me again
Fool me three times....OK that's enough.

The damn thing looked so real. I told him if I were outside camping or something, I would be scared, but I would almost expect it. But not in the bathroom, bathtub or kitchen sink!

Have a good day!
