They are exposed!

I saw the most disgusting thing on television on Friday night. It was called "To Catch a Predator". The guy from Dateline, Chris Hansen was hosting the show. They were exposing several online sexual predators.

Several volunteers from Perverted-Justice —the group dedicated to catching Internet predators— were in chat rooms posing as 12,13 and 14-year-olds ready to make a date for sex with men they meet online.

Law enforcement officials estimate that 50,000 predators are online at any given moment.

In many cases, as soon as the "predator" found out the age of the teenager, the conversation would turn sexual. In most cases, the men ask for pictures of the young teens and then send pictures of themselves. Sometimes after the chat turns sexual, the man turns on his Web cam and exposes himself. Several men go as far as sending pornographic pictures hoping to teach the inexperienced child about different sex acts.

During their investigation they saw 19 men in 3 days. It was shocking to find out what these men did for a living, aside from their internet life. Included in this particular group of men were a Rabbi, a teacher, a doctor, an army sargeant, and one person that called himself a "good samaritan".

One guy, who went by the name of "specialguy29," went online and told their decoy, who was posing as a 14-year old-boy, that he is an 11th grade English teacher. Then he told the boy that he hates condoms but he’s safe. They set up a meeting at the undercover house.
Their decoy asked “specialguy29” to bring beer and then requested the guy to enter through the garage and strip to his underwear before he entered the house ... and that he would be in his underwear. This was a technique used by law enforcement to show intent. The guy said he didn't wear underwear, so the decoy said “then come in naked.”
They didn't think he would go for that, but he did! After casing the house, walking up and down the street - he came in the garage with the beer and....yes, you guessed! He stripped completely naked.

Here is how it went down after "specialguy29" entered the house:

Hansen: Could you explain yourself?

John, screenname "specialguy29": I'm sorry

Hansen: Why don't you go ahead and cover up.

John: Certainly. I'm sorry.

Hansen: What kind of conduct is this for a high school teacher?

John: None, sir. I've never done this before.

Hansen: So you just woke up this morning and said I'm going to get involved in an Internet conversation with a 14 year old boy. I'm going to go to his house, strip naked and walk in with a 12-pack of beer.
Hansen: What would have happened John if I wasn't here?

John: I probably would have chickened out, sir.

After doing a deeper background check on him, they found out he's neither a teacher nor a bus driver - his father told them that he is unemployed, and he's not 29, he's actually 43.

Hansen: Do you know that it's illegal to have a conversation on the Internet with the intent to have sex with a minor?
John: Yes sir I do.

He says he knows it’s illegal but it appears that’s not enough to deter him. The next day, THE VERY NEXT DAY, he went online. The volunteer from Perverted-Justice spotted him, using the same screen name. The volunteer posed as a 13 year old teenager, and set up another visit. “Specialguy29” defied the odds and agreed to meet, but first he confirmed the meeting was not about food. Chris Hansen walked right up to "specialguy29" at McDonalds and asked him what he was doing. Of course "specialguy29" tried to pass it off as "just getting something to eat", but after a few minutes admitted he was there to meet the teenager. Then he even admitted that he has problems and that is why he was seeing a psychiatrist.

Hmmmm....I don't know what you think, but it doesn't appear as though his doctor visits are helping much.

Oh yeah, every one of them gave the same excuse (almost verbatim) ... "I’ve never visited a teenage boy before in my life."....."First time in my life this happens to me." ...."I've never done this before." Law enforcement official, Lt. Jacoby of the Fairfax county police department in Virginia said when those statements are given, they are lying about "100%" of the time.

This television show exposed several sexual predators...A Rabbi?...A Doctor?...An Army Sargeant? All I can say is these people are truly sick. I am saying a true illness, because there is nothing about their behavior that is right.

I can't be Calzone for this post. I used to work as a prison law project director. Most convicted offenders who abused minors could never come to grips with what they did, and yes they are sick.

Sad situation for everyone involved.

Oi Vey! That is so wrong, and gross! They were all probably molested as a child or beaten, or something. They could also just be schizophrenic, I hate to make excuses for them though! They're all scum in my book, no matter what your past or your disorder/illness there is no reason you can't exercise restraint and attempt to control yourself!

Hotboy ~ yes, it does make you wonder. Dearie me, is right!

Kay Ray ~ I know, I know!

Carl ~ I wondered if you heard about it where you are. I wasn't sure how close this is to where you live. It is sad, it is pathetic.

Johnny ~ ? hmmm....(is this the alternate personality of Calzone?) Wow, that must have been an interesting job. It has to be some sort of sickness for sure. If you could have seen that guy (the one I highlighted in my post). There is the picture that I put up, but to see him and how he was, told a lot more than a still picture. He really did look like there was something wrong with him.

Becky ~ awful isn't it?

Lee Ann said...

Jef ~ Yes, that is messed up, isn't it?

They are sick and they will never be cured. Frankly, they should all be locked up.

Oh boy, I watched that as well Friday night. Yep it is disgusting from a current moral standpoint.

Before the Internet? They would have been murderous pedophiles probably.

Lee Ann said...

Hey mojo~ I have missed you! You may be right, and that is a scary thought!

I caught part of that show the other night. In fact caught the whole specialguy29 segment. What's so sad is that this was 19 out of the 50,000. It boggles the mind as to what might be going on out there...

Lee Ann said...

osbasso ~ You are right! It is mind boggling. In my mind, it makes absolutely no sense at all. All you can ask is WHY?

Cant these guys be treated..I mean teated with cyanide or some kind of drug...this is gross..it scares the living hell out of me..
Shouldnt these guys be arrested ?
Or maybe like hackers they should ban them from ever getting close to a computer at the least.

Lee Ann said...

Goan ~ That is an idea. It is scary!

Dear Lee Ann,

The Internet seems to enable initial annonymity, which can then turn into actual contact. That sort of thing is, I hope, far less possible hereabouts, where everyone knows everyone else's business, and where most people still live in extended families. And, of course, where far less people have access to the Internet.

Is it the Internet which is facilitating such activity, and/or is such activity a symptom of changing lifestyles in the West, where there appears to be less emphasis on close-knit families?

MMIII ~ Good question. I don't really know the root of it. Other than the fact that these people have some mental problems, or some type of serious sickness, I cannot tell you what makes them start doing such atrocious things.

I do think that the internet helps to facilitate their behavior... these perverts are cowards who hide behind their computers to prey on innocent children in their own homes. Perhaps when caught, they should undergo a casteration session? It won't seem like so much fun for them without the equipment, would it?

Thank goodness there are programs out there to seize these preditors... although sad that we live in a world where they exist.

What Zombie said. It also pays to know who lives around you. There are several websites that will tell you of any known sexual predators that live in your area; it pays to check them out.

jiggs said...

Fucking weird. Creepy ass shit. I don't really have a phrase with which to do this justice

Lee Ann said...

Ellen ~ You are right, there are always going to be the perverts. The net is just one more way for them to do it.

Fred ~ That is a good idea, know what is out there!

Ghost ~ Hey! Thanks for stopping by! I know, THE VERY NEXT DAY! I couldn't believe it either. Come by again!

Lightning bb ~ Hey! Thanks for stopping by! Yeah, that would definitely be a good idea. Priorities, huh? Come by again!

Mike ~ Hey! Haven't seen you for a while. You are soooo right!

I was part of Perverted-Justice for about 6 months, and then, for various reasons,I had to stop being actively involved.

They have recieved a lot of flack about their "vigilanteism", but I fully support what they do. Seeing as their is no on-line police force to take down these scumbags.

The sad thing is that cases like "specialguy29" are not unusual, but run-of-the-mill. Yahoo! took a big step towards righting some of these wrongs by closing down alot of their chat-rooms. But unfortunately it just makes these sick fuckers more creative in how they groom kids.

Lee Ann said...

alistair ~ That is very interesting. I can sort of understand how The Group would be thought of as "vigilanteism", but that is just about what is needed for trying to dissolve that type of behavior. You know the old saying "if there is a will, there is a way". At least there is a big effort in trying to put a stop to this stuff.

Casteration's too good for them. I'd give them cod liver oil, every meal. Make them spend their lives on the toilet instead of on the internet.

Lee Ann said...

Rob ~ I agree!

Shel ~ Hey! Thanks for stopping by! You are right and that is hard to think about. But you really don't know what everyone does in the privacy of their home! Come by again.

Bill ~ You are so right. By the way, glad you are back!

The number one category of child sexual abusers has always been dogmatic religious fundamentalists.
Unknown to most is that the number two category is career military people. I used to work in the field.
