...called Eye Gazing Parties.
Singles in their 20s-30s are gathering for these eye gazing parties. It is along the same lines as the speed dating parties.
Michael Ellsberg was looking for a new creative way to meet new and interesting people. He was tired of the same old questions…”What do you do?” … “Where do you live?” He figured there were other people whose eyes glazed over as fast as his did in response to this kind of mind-numbing singles patter.
Michael lives in New York City, is an account executive in corporate sales. In his spare time, he teaches Cuban-style salsa dancing. Through this, he has become mesmerized by the power of eye contact to make or break the connection on the dance floor. He feels this is the single most important factor in a dance partner.
Here is how it works. An even number of singles meets in an attractive space over drinks and world beats. After a fun mini-lesson in the art of eye contact, the group splits into pairs, and each pair spends two minutes looking at each other's eyes, no talking, with inviting beats in the background. The pairs switch up every two minutes, for a total of a half an hour. Then there is a party afterwards, with drinks flowing and luscious beats vibing. The eye gazing has an electrifying effect on the party; simply put, three minutes of eye contact is the Cadillac of icebreakers.
It is catching on fast and people are finding that it sparks a captivating connection with an alluring new person.
I find it a bit strange. Sometimes, it is hard enough to look certain people that you know in the eye, let alone a stranger.
Talk about awkward silence!

Eyes are the gateway to the soul.
I'm not sure I would want someone to see my soul when I first meet them.
I could do that! A staring competition. Who looks away first? Doing the juju I do is great for this. You can rest your eyes on anything until your legs get sore. Staring? If someone stares, usually they want to fight you or something else. This is a something else situation. Look between their eyes at that spot and ... well, at least you've got the staring right. Hotboy
I think it would crack me up. I could never win at those "stare down" arguments. I always looked away or laughed.
Thanx for the idea i gonna make a Eye gazing Picture of me and blog it
I've been known to sit and stare at a wall for extended periods of time. Does this qualify?
Andy ~ I think it is strange to just sit and stare at someone to make a connection!
Hotboy ~ I think you would have the staring part down, but I believe the point is to stare into the eyes!
Angel ~ I think it would be awkward too, supposedly staring into someone's eyes to get to know them???? ugh...*squirm*
Henri ~ Oh, I want to see it! That will be a good one!
Poly ~ I think that is an awesome trick Poly, but I don't think that qualifies for this thing! ;)
Tread water- tread water!
I heard about this technique they are using for the dating scene called "speed dating".
They didn't go into details, but I wonder if this would qualify?
I've always been accused of having a very intense gaze... maybe this is the answer to all my dating dilemmas!
Ellen ~ The speed dating is what this was based off of. The only difference is there is no talking in the eye gazing parties during your short little rotations, until the party afterwards.
WD ~ That is awesome. Big plus for you. Boyfriend is amazing when he looks into my eyes...feels like he is looking right into my soul. I love to look deep with him, it is a real connection on a deeper level. That must be what they are trying to accomplish, but I am not sure you can get that within the first few minutes of meeting someone.
As they sat motionless at the table, eyes fixed on each other, how could he detect the imperceptable movement as she held a fully charged tazer beneath the table, inching ever closer to his knee...
That's a crock of shit. It would all end up being about physical beauty and not getting to know what the person is really like. They might as well call it orgy party. I always learn cool new stuff over here!
No thanks. Not for me. I'd probably start twitching. I'm just too ADD for that.
OK, I don't KNOW that I have ADD but I sure don't have tolerance for silent staring. I mean, weren't we all taught that staring is rude?
It's OK to stare if you have an excuse (such as listening), but to start in silence would drive me b-o-n-k-e-r-s. I always have too much to ask and too much to talk about.
Maybe it's for people who aren't very interesting?
I love being able to look into someone's eyes and know what they are thinking and feeling. Or that shared look across a room that says it all, whether it's "I love you" or "I'm bored, can we go now?" But that is only doable after knowing someone, not beforehand.
I'd sit there analyzing the color of their eyes and if they were symmetrical and if they needed to pluck their brows and wonder if I did, so when was the last time I had them waxed? Oh and I really need to make an appointment with the dentist, which reminds me, I need to stop at the drug store and get more toothpaste and deodarant and, and, and....
I couldn't do it. I'd laugh, then she'd get up and walk away. Date over.
His majesty ~ Faster...don't drown!
Tich ~ Haha...That would be a shock, wouldn't it?
Tumble ~ You are most likely right ;)
Saur ~ I think it would drive me bonkers too. I can stare into boyfriend's eyes, no problem, but I have also known him for years.
Heather ~ I love looking into certain people's eyes, I can carry on a conversation without saying a word, but I would be like you too. Thinking about other things, do I have sleepy in my eye, does my face actually look different like his after staring for so long....
Jef ~ haha, you lose!!!! ;)
Fred ~ I know, I think it would be hard not to laugh!
Ceri ~ I am with you and Andy...I totally agree. I'll stare at you too ;)
Jiggs, I do too, out of respect. How do you feel about staring into someone's (that you have never met before) eyes for 3 minutes, no talking? I think it is a bit awkward.
I could so do that with you baby
Ummm...Baby, I know you could, as I could with you!
Lee Ann - Hmmmm, interesting. I wonder what's next. Sniffing parties? ;)
Only in NY! LOL
Peace & Hugs,
- Neo
Neo ~ haha, you never know! ;)
*hugs*
I think that's great. If only it had existed when I was in my 20s, it could have saved me a lot of time.
Rob ~ You are cute!
i normally just wear mirroed sunglases so their actually looking at their own eyes.
makes them reflect upon themselves. eventually, they crumble before me.
it's pretty awesome!
that distracts from the fact that i can't spell "mirrorrreeddd"
or is it "mirrayed?"
aaarrgh
Hey, it's my birthday! You taking me out?
Better check my record!
Jamwall ~ That is an interesting concept. Mirrored sunglasses, how cool is that! I bet it is hypnotizing.
Tad ~ Looks like we need to celebrate! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Where would you like to go?
