Yes, it's been torture!

This is a true story.

See the picture above? Well, that is my left foot. I am pointing to the spot on my foot that has been torturing me for a couple of days.
The other night, I awoke in agonizing pain. My foot was cramping in the very spot where my finger is pointing.
Have you ever looked at a body part when it is cramping? It is quite amazing. I couldn't help but notice all of the veins in that little muscular spot on my foot were bulging at least 2-3 times their normal size.
I must have been crying in pain for at least 30 minutes. After a lot of massaging and tears, it finally calmed down, but I didn't sleep too well after that.
Ever since then, it has been bothering me, almost as if it is bruised. It still feels like it is on the verge of cramping. Just waiting there to pounce upon me like a kitten chasing a laser light.
Have you ever watched a kitten chase a laser light?
Well anyway, I seem to have messed up my sleep pattern now.
Once I did get to sleep, I slept late the next morning, which caused me to not want to go to bed on time Sunday night, which caused me to want to sleep at my desk on Monday.
Have you ever been so tired at work, you would give just about anything to close your lids (which by the way feel like they weigh 10 lbs. each) and lie your head down and sleep. Right there at your desk, in the middle of the day?
Well, that was me.
So hopefully, I can get back on my sleep track.
But more importantly, I pray that the cramp does not make a surprise attack again.

Hi honey. Sounds like you are experiencing a common potassium deficiency. Eat a banana (what girl can resist them?) and you'll be fine. ;o)

I get calf cramps mostly when I work my legs too hard. Nothing like that morning stretch and WHAM!
it hits- Ah! Ah! Oh! Oh! Ooh! Ooh!
Did you ever get a toe cramp? Those are fun.

I have foot cramps. They are excruciating.

I get a cramp every once in a while in my calf. It hurts like a son of a bitch!

I fell asleep sitting up quite a lot last week! Cramp is really an attack! Then you wait for it to attack again. Most unsettling. Hope it's gone for good! Hotboy

Try drinking a glass of Tonic water each day (like the stuff you make a Gin and Tonic with). It has stuff in it that should prevent your muscle cramps.

Poor baby. So sorry to hear that. I have been so sick at the radio station that all I could do was lay my head down while the song was playing, conserve my energy so I could sound alive during the (very short) breaks. Hope it gets better and how is that other thing we were talking about? Holla.

Lee Ann said...

Os ~ You are a doll! Thank you so much.

Saur ~ Yes, bananas are good ;) I will try that with more fluids. Thanks!

Carl ~ Well, I used to get calf and toe cramps, and sometimes one in my gluteus maximus (can't tell you how I get those!), but once I started working out on the treadmill, I was introduced to the foot cramp. They all hurt...bad! Now, that sounds like a plan, what time will you be here....robes are on the back of the door!

Lee Ann said...

Poly ~ I know, I used to get the calf cramps all the time when I was on the swim team. Yes, I get the toe cramps too. YUCK!

Angel ~ Oh, I see you understand.

Andy ~ Oh, I have gotten the calf cramps...those hurt so much too!

Lee Ann said...

Hotboy ~ That is exactly right! Thank you Hotboy.

Booty ~ Hey Booty, I like it when you visit me! I will have to try that, thanks.

Trucker ~ Thank you so much.

Foto ~ Haha, me too!

T ~ Thank you T. Oh, certainly wouldn't want that to happen to you!

Phats ~ Thank you Phats. I usually get the foot cramps after working out and maybe not enough fluids!
Sometimes it seems like nothing will work to get rid of them :(

Lee Ann said...

Shannon ~ Thank you. I know about those "other" kinds of cramps...blech!
I know, sometimes a brief nap can make the difference. Glad you pulled over!

Jiggs ~ Thank you Jiggsy, I heart you!

Sorry you have a boo boo, it sounds like you need retail therapy. That's my advice! LOL..

Fame ~ Thank you. Now that is a great idea. Shopping usually does make me feel better. Wish you were here, we could shop together.

I say!

So sorry to hear about your ankle. Have you been playing cricket, by any chance. That's a common injury to RFs (right-arm fast bowlers).

As for booty j patrol's advice - its sound. Even better if you add some gin.

Cramps suck! I get them in the arch of my feet. But why do they always come in the middle of the night?!?!?!

Are you all better now?

Don't foot cramps mean you're still growing? I stopped getting cramps a year ago...I've stopped =(

But not where it counts! =P

Ellen said...

Oh so sorry to hear about your foot cramp. I've had those toe cramps, but never a foot cramp. Perhaps you can ask someone at your gym if you need to do something different in your routine in order not to bring along the cramp?
Hope it goes away soon!

As for the nap issue.... love them! Siestas are the only way to make it through the day!

Sorry to hear you're in pain, lee Ann. That's almost an HNTuesday picture.

I used to use a laser through the window to get the dog to run around the garden at night while I stayed indoors.

That feeling, the desire to sleep at work. Long ago when I worked in a big open-plan office, I sometimes gave in to it. Delicious! Until the boss sent round a memo about sleeping on the job.

BTW, re your tip about using moist heat - I tried a very hot bath with my neck submerged - wonderful effect!

Hope you feel better hun!

I have had cramps like that before. Potassium. Get some. Anyway I had a cramp on face one time or it may have just been some muscle twitch but no matter what I did - it would not go away for likek the whole day and I could see it. I kept thinking I hope no one notices.

Becky said...

My foot cramps up at night sometimes too, except it's the arch that bugs me. I find the best thing to do is not touch it all at and try to relax it.... When you let it tense up and stay tense it just keeps hurting.

WDKY said...

I hate cramp... I get it in one of my toes sometimes - can you believe that?

Anyway, haven't you got all that wierd over-the-counter drugstore shit over there? Or pop over and I'll... errr... rub it for you x

truckdriver_sefl said...

I am just checking on you hope you are ok!

Lee Ann said...

Menzies ~ Thank you MMIII. Oh, maybe I am cut out to be a RFs. Gin is not one of my favorites, would a little Rum work as well?

Cherry ~ Ouch! I guess, because we are totally relaxed and it wants to be fully noticed! ;)

Fred ~ Getting there, thanks.

Lee Ann said...

Hippo ~ Oh, I am so glad to hear that Hippo! I thought that about you!

Ellen ~ Thank you Ellen. Remember as a child how we would fight taking a nap? Oh, to have those days again!

Rob ~ Yes, you are right, it is almost a HNTuesday picture! Oh, I would love to see the dog run around the garden. I laugh at my girl cat. She is not normally very active, but will chase a laser in circles...haha
Yes, I did that once, and a co-worker came by and asked me if I was sleeping, and I replied "Well, I was trying to!!!"
Glad the moist heat helped some. The more you repeat that, eventually the pain will fade away. I hope it is better now.

Lee Ann said...

T ~ Thank you so much.

C ~ OOOOOH! I have never had a cramp in my face, that would be bad!

Becky ~ I know, that is sometimes impossible. Sometimes, I can get it relaxed, then the other foot gets attacked. :(

Lee Ann said...

wdky ~ Oh, I get them in my toes sometimes, I hate that. I would rather pop over there..... ;)

Trucker ~ Hey! Thank you, I am working on it! ;)

Tumbleweed said...

Yes to all of those questions....which in turn helps me feel your pain! Sorry....love ya!

Lee Ann said...

Tumble ~ Thanks, love ya too!

Kelly said...

Yeah it can hurt for awhile after a foot cramp. Next time take a spoonfull of mustard or a calcium magnesium tablet. Also try and turn your foot the oposite direction to pull the cramp down.

Lee Ann said...

Myutopia ~ Thanks, I will remember that for the next time!
I just know there will be a next time! ;)
