Where do we go from here?

Have you ever thought about the (relatively) new sounds that we hear that we take for granted.

*a random honk in the parking lot (sometimes several at a time)
...it does not give cause for a second look as we know it is just someone locking their car.
*Home alarm system
...Remember the day when our parents could leave the front door unlocked...all night?
*Ringing, in the store, elevator, park, movies :(
....First it was the beeper, now it is cell phones.
We are almost immune to the sound of a phone ringing anywhere we go. Not only a ring, but some sort of tune or song, and not only for an answer ring, but for a calling ring...there are "ring back tones or songs" that play when you call someone. Instead of hearing the phone ring the person you are calling, it plays a song.

The evolution of technology....

CRTs > PCs > laptops > Palms

Wallphones > cordless phones > cellphones

Records > 8 tracks > cassettes > cds > mp3s

VCR > DVD players > portable DVD players > mp3 players

Think how the television has changed...
The Black and white TV
The Console Tube Color TV
Plasma
LCD
Now you can find television anywhere - on planes, inside your car, on your cellphone.

And cellphones....
Now they are phones, calculators, music players, video players and televisions, cameras, and now I have heard they are breathalizers!
As far as cellphones, you can see people on them everywhere - the mall, school, car, park, airplane, work, gym, the movies :( , basically anywhere you go, there is a cellphone.

Times are changing...and it is amazing.

What other things can you think of that has transformed in the evolution of modern technology?

there are colored ones then spike condoms , glowing condoms and so on. to think that the early version is a reusable one now in display in a museum in the usa.
i am still waiting for a magic condom . it's the one that will transform a user to say brad pitt look alike when he puts it on. or at least his you know what !

soon we will be living like the Jetson's.

Lee Ann said...

Coach ~ Awesome! Let's figure a way to invent this!

Carl ~ Oh, I loved watching the Jetsons....Meet George Jetson, daughter Judy, Jane his wife. You are right.

I think vehicles have come a long way, from little wagons, horses, to cars and all the snazzy things that they have in cars.

And what about air conditioning? We went from nothing to fans, to ceiling fans, to air conditioners, to central air.. pretty cool huh? =)

Lee Ann said...

Foto ~ very interesting concept. If it maintained the integrity of its purpose, I am all for that.

Shan ~ Yes, those are great examples. The cars now are truly a sign of evolution of technology.
AC, what would we do now without it?

The oven.
We went from open pits and fireplaces to wood stoves, then on to conventional gas and electric.
In the past 30+ years, we've had the microwave to push the cooking process along a little faster. The first ones weren't really all that good, other than to warm up food, but they have made a lot of strides in that area recently. Even stores sell foods that are microwavabe as the only cooking process.

(Not that this is how we cook and serve our delicious catering, mind you.... but it has been known to "zap" cook that forgotten potato here and there.)

Oh.... and I putting in an order for the Brad Pitt condoms whenever they become available. Bet you won't be able to keep those on the shelf long.

Lee Ann said...

Ellen ~ Oh yes, the microwave, what a wonderful evolution.
It sure makes life easier in certain situations.
I know, I am already in line for one of those Brad Pitt condoms!
;)

My parents live in a community where they can still leave their doors unlocked believe it or not

JM said...

One sound I don't like are the personalized ring tones. Some of them can be so annoying.

Lee Ann said...

Phats ~ I think I probably could too. In fact, there have been times that I woke up in the morning to find that my door had been left unlocked all night.
I just feel too uneasy to do it on purpose.

Lee Ann said...

Angel ~ I do agree with you!

It is mind boggling how fast things are moving. The moment you buy something (at least with electronics) it's already obsolete.

Spinning Girl said...

I always think about the children who are recently born and will never know what life was like before the digital age.

Lee Ann said...

Lecram ~ You are right! I always try to wait as long as I can to buy something new, I know before long it will be improved.

SG ~ I know....the simpler times. Isn't that what our grandparents say?

I still hate the sound of a ringing phone and ring tones have made my hate turn into despise!
ring > tone > jinggles > ringtones

I want to kill everytime I hear one go off. I even talk overly loud when some ass starts up a loud cell phone conversation.

Lee Ann said...

honkeie ~ I don't like someone talking on their cellphone in public. Sometimes it is a private conversation and I feel awkward hearing it. Now, I look them in the eye while they are talking. They give me a look like how dare you eavesdrop!

john said...

Magic condom . I'm all for it .That's a big improvement if you and Lee Ann can perfect it John . What if you are a black guy ? A black dude w/ a white d--- is a turn off !

Lee Ann said...

John ~ I think you might be right about that "turn off" thing you mentioned.
I think to perfect the magic condom, you would have to have a selection (to choose the most desireable for your mate).

Scales - First had those really old ones that used weights now you get electronic ones and mind you they are just far to accurate!!!!

Lee Ann said...

nmotb ~ I would have to agree there!

Just look at weapons (not that I'm into them) but a single person can take out an airplane with a portable shoulder rocket launcher.
And just look at lasers, tazers,
guns that shoot nets and foam. It's all too crazy and futuristic.

Lee Ann said...

Poly ~ Yes, very good! You are so right!

My mother gave up when they brought in twin tub washing machines. She was brought up with manual wringers. I gave up around about the end of the sony walkman. I refuse to have anything to do with it now. They've all got manuals. I want stuff you switch on and switch off. Then shout at. Then throw it away. But this technological development stuff is awesome. I don't know anyone who works there. Hotboy

Newspaper comics.

They've gotten smaller. Much smaller.

I still say "album"...I think a lot of people do, actually!

Violet said...

don't tell anyone, but i never lock my sliding glass door to my patio, whether i'm home or not. it doesn't have a key, but it is closer to the parking lot in my apartment complex... thus, this all really just amounts to me being lazy...

Hotboy said...

Well, Lee Ann: I'm not too sure if you can afford me. I need about 60 bucks a week to be exemplary! But that's only in the beginning. After that, amazements check in. They do! Hotboy

I'm waiting for genuine xray glasses. Then go walk on college campuses, particularly the sorority houses. ;-)

Lee Ann, thanks for letting me hear Tom Petty this morning.

My butt is a lot more technologically advanced than it was. like I have all these implants to make my butt bigger and make it possible for me to shoot lasers out of my ass.

Becky said...

I hate the ring back tone when you call someone! You're forced to listen to their music, and it always sucks!

Lee Ann said...

Hotboy ~ Wow, your mom did the manual wringers? I am impressed. Yes hotboy, some of those manuals are not so easy!

Gyro ~ Hey...you are right!

Jlee ~ Yes, definitely!

Lee Ann said...

Violet ~ That is great that you can do that!

Hotboy ~ I am amazed Hotboy.

Jason ~ Hey, I would like a pair of those! I can think of some uses I would use them for. ;)

Lee Ann said...

Rasta ~ Oh yes Rasta!
peace and hugs from babygirl

App ~ Glad you enjoyed it!

Jiggs ~ wow, Jiggsy, that is amazing. Just think, there might be a spot in the new evolved circus. Possible job security!

Lee Ann said...

Becky ~ Yes, you have a good point there!

One of my pet hates is modern noise. I often use earplugs in stores and on city streets. Even in the cinema.

I'm a sensitive little soul, also I have tinnitus, which gets worse with noise. Caused originally by the mega-sirens at work, but I can't prove it. Sadly, it means I can no longer enjoy e.g. Led Zeppelin full blast. I hope you don't get it.

Lee Ann said...

Rob ~ I am sorry you can no longer listen to Led Zep full blast, that is an awesome band.
Thanks for stopping!
